Day 3: Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Da Vinci Museum

Today, we had a nice slow breakfast, coffee and headed out to the Pantheon. About a 15 minute walk and we were back at Trevi Fountain – another 5 minutes walk and we’re at the Pantheon.  The Pantheon is a perfect circle - exactly as wide as it is tall.  Rafael’s tomb is inside. It’s been in continuous service for the longest of any other building in the world – it just celebrated its 1400th anniversary as a functioning church.

Next, we continued 5 more minutes to the Piazza Navona where we stopped for photos of this beautiful plaza. We popped our heads in a the church on the plaza there – amazing painted ceilings and walls. Every plaza has a huge carved fountain – these are just jaw-dropping beautiful.  We took a break for a beer and listened to the church bells in the plaza – memorable experience in Rome.  5 minutes in the same direction (although more like 15 minutes with us taking wrong turns and finding other beautiful fountains and streets and shops) we found the Da Vinci museum. Wow – what a great interactive museum!  On the way back – we stopped at the Trevi fountain gelato place (3rd time in three days!) and on to a favorite café street where we had another bottle of prosecco and a meat and cheese plate.  Yum!  Then back to the hotel for a much needed siesta and work on the internet.

Tomorrow, we visit Vatican City – our last full day in Rome before headed south to Naples. Hard to believe this first segment of the trip is almost done. We both love Rome!
