We’re sitting here having breakfast this morning at a beautiful
agritourismo (a working farm with lodging) just outside Bagni di Lucca. This villa -Pian di Fiume- is situated in the
mountains along Trefuma Lima river. They built Italy’s longest private bridge
here – right by the horse stables, wandering goats, beekeeping area, wine
orchards, fruit trees: you get the picture. It’s Tuscany epitomized…
(we’re back, after a hike)
We went for a nice 5 mile hike through the mountains which took us through
3 different Tuscan villages; right as we arrived to one of them, the church
bells started ringing. Wow! We picked up
a picnic lunch at the general market in one of the villages and now we’re back
hanging out by the pool working on the blog, knitting a dish cloth (Jane),
reading (Kristi) and drinking a bottle of wine. J
We are doing very well.
More to come after tomorrow’s canyon hike!

Lovely! (These are everywhere in full bloom)

The trails take you through villages like this one (and the residents were so nice!)
Yes, Janie is the MASTER of planning a trip to Italy!!! We could not believe the incredible Orrido Canyon that you found and traversed just outside of Lucca...we never knew it was there, although it is definitely a hike/adventure for you young folks...4 hrs hiking to get there! You are both so courageous and adventurous! Wish I were still this young and still in Europe to join you someplace en route...(What happened to my plan to stay in a Zermatt chateau until you arrived??!!!) We LOVE the picture of you with Massimo, the Canyon's magnificence, and the one of the two of you flailing in the River wearing your helmets!...you CANNOT take TOO many pictures, Kristi!!! I wish I were there!!! I'll be envious of every place you go, especially Cinque Terra, but also EVER so HAPPY for your travels and your blog descriptions! Love, Mom
