It took about 4 hours by train to get from Naples to Lucca
(with a stop in Rome for lunch), and when we walked off the train, we knew we’d
come someplace special. Surrounding the village is an ancient wall and we
followed a path to walk through it and get into the village center. A few narrow cobblestone streets with piazzas
and churches and we arrived at our little cobblestone street and B&B Al
Tuscany.
The owner, Claudio, is the perfect Italian host. In 2000, after a career in architecture,
Claudio bought Al Tuscany B&B, renovated it, filled it with beautiful antiques
and now hosts travelers. He was generous, told us about the city and things to
do, suggested where to go to dinner, etc. On his way home, he and his cute geriatric
dog jerry bumped into us we invited him to join us for a wine and bruscetta. We
liked him and this place so much that we canceled our other 3 days of
reservations in Lucca and decided to stay at this lovely location. The next day we shopped at the little shop right before we caught the train to Bagne di Lucca.
