After an early breakfast this morning at the hotel, we headed out for a walking tour of the Colosseum, Palantine Hill, and Roman Forum –wowwwwwww. And thanks to Jane, we had a pre-recorded audio tour on these areas – it was great! Around noon on the way back, we drank from the fountain near the capitol (reportedly the best water in Rome), walked by the capitol square and back. A lot of walking in this city! Such beautiful streets – fountains everywhere you turn. We stopped for a nice prosecco (Italian sparking wine), pasta and cheese/meat plate lunch at a nearby outdoor cafĂ© – then back for a siesta later followed up by another evening stroll “passeggiata” to the Spanish Steps in time for sunrise/full moon tonight! 5 minutes walk south to Trevi Fountain turned into an hour long detour. We were so disoriented (having come to the Spanish Steps by metro) that we walked almost the complete opposite direction and reached the Piazza Popolo before realizing Trevi was back from where we came. But here we are – in Rome and doing as the Romans do…passeggiata…just strolling, greeting each other, going to visit places in the beautiful city…and of course...having a dose of gelato. There’s a store right at the corner of the Trevi Fountain (and their nutella/coffee combo is something we now cannot live without)! We walked back on ‘our route’ taking us past beautiful churches, amazing architecture and very beautiful cityscapes. Rome and its people are lovely!
Follow along with us as we travel Italy, Zermatt, the French Riviera and Barcelona...
