Naples and Pompeii

We said goodbye to Rome and took la Freccia (speed train) to Naples. Kristi’s two friends from her Africa safari with Charles met us at the train station (with a new friend Paula) and treated us to one of the more harrowing car rides in recent experience successfully navigated by Paula. After dropping our bags off at Claudia’s parents house in Naples where we were staying, we walked around and grabbed some food and ate it while walking and looking at the sea side view of Mt. Vesuvius. To get ourselves pumped for the afternoon at Pompeii, we stopped by a coffee bar and each had a ‘shaken coffee’  (the most amazing unfrozen milkshake coffee drink). Off to Pompeii.

Most if the pictures below are of this trip. It was amazing. Highlights include: walking down the streets and seeing remenants of old shops including a brothel with the best preserved murals in Pompeii. (it’s a pornographic picture menu – wow). We walked around Pompeii square and took a lot of photos and then headed back into Naples for a nice late dinner (still getting used to that) at a neighborhood pizzeria with a lovely bottle of local white.

A special thank you to our friends Claudia, Valentina and Paula for hosting us for a beautiful weekend in southern Italy!
